Agriculture and Special Initiatives
The Agriculture and Special Initiatives section works closely with the Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Workforce Development and Mississippi vocational teachers to develop and revise agriculture curricula to include academic and industry standards, 21st Century Skills standards, and technology standards; “high quality” teaching and assessment strategies, and up to date resources. Personnel in this area are responsible for developing CPAS tests.
Other responsibilities include researching and advising the Associate Superintendent of Education on new initiatives in vocational education, working on developmental programs, developing hardware and software specifications for programs, and advising the curriculum, research, and assessment efforts.
Goals
- To research and develop Agriculture curriculum and CPAS
- To participate in state and national vocational groups and meetings to advise the Associate State Superintendent of Education on new initiatives in Vocational and Technical Education
- To research and create developmental programs
- To research and recommend hardware and software specifications
- To advise the curriculum, research, and assessment sections of the Research and Curriculum Unit
- To establish and maintain a comprehensive system of effective communications among vocational and education personnel
- To assess professional development needs among vocational and technical education personnel
- To deliver professional development activities of high quality to meet the needs of vocational and technical education personnel
- To integrate technology into curriculum and workplace for greater productivity.
